Should you videotape your wedding?

Most couples say their wedding day went by so fast that they could hardly remember very much of what happened. This is true of any highly charged, adrenaline pumping event that we are involved in. Not surprisingly, one of the biggest regrets couples experience after their wedding is their decision pass on the professional video. The video can serve to help you not only remember but see things that happen throughout the wedding day event that would surprise you.

Your wedding will be full of once-in-a-lifetime moments that should be documented and relived with future generations. Imagine what it would be like to watch the story of your parent's, your grandparent's, or other relative's wedding. Although good photographs capture singular moments, there is simply no substitute for an account showing who, what, where, when, and how of one of the most defining events of your life

How many and what type of cameras will we be using in our work?

We currently employ all Sony DV and HDV camera equipment. During the ceremony, we use up to three remote controlled cameras, and a close-up camera, depending on the complexity of the shoot, and the package that you buy. All cameras use the DV format, meaning they record all video in the same format and are compatible with each other. Our inventory include a combination of high end camcorders, pro consumer, and professional cameras. If a shoot requires it, we will rent the $8,000 - $15,000 type of cameras that are seldom used by typical videographers.

How visible and how intrusive will our cameras and crew be on the wedding day.

Our staff at Vidweddings are trained to work toward being invisible at the wedding shoot. While we can't remain completely out of site, we do employ remote controlled cameras, coordinate which the photographer, and shoot most shots from 10 to 20 feet away. There are instances where close-ups are required such as the the exchange of the wedding rings, the first dance, and the cutting of the cake. We handle these as unobtrusively as possible. We try to let the couple know when close-ups will be required before the wedding. However, occasionally, opportunity shots may not allow this. In these infrequent instances, we take the shot and apologize later. Again, "Whatever it takes!"

Will our bright lights and long cables overpower or be distracting to your wedding event?

We will not turn your wedding into a Hollywood production or make it resemble the Oscar ceremony. (Unless you choose that option!) We are careful not to interfere or change the flow of the wedding day. Our cameras record well in low light situations. But when necessary, we may have to use our on-camera lights for short periods of time. Just remember that our decision to use camera lighting has been well thought out and is our only alternative.

Since we use remotely controlled cameras, we do have to run some cabling in the wedding chapel or church. Our experience with large crowds in situations such as churche services, is that they do not notice the cable runs. A benefit to our remote control cameras is that we do not have to have multiple camera persons moving around the room during the ceremony. Because we are very careful where we run the cables (we hide them where possible) we have never received a complaint about the use of them to date.

How do we work with photographers?

We believe in treating others as we would want them to treat us. As professionals, we consider ourselves a part of the team that has been assigned the task of not only preserving your wedding day, but to make it a near perfect day to remember. Our focus will be on making this happen!

How long will it take to finish the video?

Typically, videos will take between 12-15 weeks to complete, depending on the season. Other film projects we do sometimes take longer. It is not uncommon that we spend over 40 hours editing a wedding video. We want the final product to be well worth your wait.

__________________________________________________________________________

How long will the finished video be?

Typically, finished videos will last no longer than 60 minutes. Don't be fooled into thinking that a longer video means a better video. Rather, a longer video generally means a lot more fast-forwarding through the boring parts. I believe the length of a video should be determined by the value of its content and not by an unwritten rule that says a video should be at least 2 hours long.

How soon before your wedding should you book us?

Popular summer dates fill up quickly. It is not uncommon to book 6 months to 1 year in advance. But last minute bookings happen just as frequently. We encourage you to contact us for an appointment; we'd love to show you what we can do for you.

What do you need to do before the wedding?

After an initial telephone or email discussion, we can set up a time to meet at your convenience where we can go over the details of your day. We can see what style of video you would like, help you choose a package, and to begin to get to know you. Closer to your wedding date, we will talk again to go over any new details that will help us as we capture your day. It is a good opportunity for you to provide us with music that will be included in your final video. My goal is to have a thorough understanding of what to expect on your wedding day from beginning to end.
